Vegetable Garden Plans That Will Amaze You
Before you start to make Vegetable Garden plans, you owe it to yourself to at least take a look at a different way of Growing Vegetables. This method of growing has taken much of the work out of Gardening, while producing spectacular results.
An increasing number of people are switching to this method of gardening every year. After using this method they are realising just how inefficient, time consuming, and how much work and expense is involved in traditional gardening. Both commercial farmers as well as backyard gardeners are changing the ways they grow food.
What I am talking about is aquaponics, not to be confused with hydroponics. Aquaponics gardening is a simple but revolutionary way to grow plants. It can cost less than traditional soil gardening and is a fraction of the work. It eliminates the hard and time consuming work of tilling, digging, pulling weeds, fertilizing, fighting gophers, slugs and snails, all while producing quality organic produce.
Aquaponics works by creating a mutually beneficial relationship between plants and fish. It just happens that fish do a wonderful job of producing rich nutrients that plants love. These nutrients come from their wastes, and although plants love them, they can become toxic to fish when they reach high enough levels. But plants are great at filtering these materials from the water and they act as a filter to clean the fish water.
Instead of growing plants in the soil, you plant them in a grow bed, usually placed at a comfortable working height for you. They can either be planted in a growing medium like Gravel or clay pellets, or in a floating raft with their roots hanging loose in the water.
Water flows into the grow bed from the fish tank and the water rich in organic nutrients is supplied directly to the roots. Since they plants have all the resources they need, without having to work to get them out of the soil, plant growth and health can be spectacular. And the vegetables they produce are all organic and of high quality.
Not only is this great for the plants, it also helps the fish by cleaning their water. And that is the surprise bonus. You get a system that not only produces fresh vegetables, it also produces fresh organic fish. Tilapia and other popular food fishes can be very productive in this type of system. Before the idea of raising fish scares you, just know that they are easier to raise than the work it takes to grow a traditional garden. Even young children successfully raise fish in aquariums.
So you get a highly productive vegetable garden that can produce up to 10 times as much in the same amount of space as you could get in the soil. You will probably use only 2% of the water that you would use with typical irrigation, where water is dumped on the ground. Most of the work in gardening will be eliminated. No more digging, tilling, weeding, watering, etc. The return on your fish will more than pay for the fish food and you will get all the free organic plant fertilizer you will need. And if you don’t want to buy fish food, grow your own. Tilapia will eat just about anything.
You can start on a small scale to try it out and add on as you go. Get all the Vegetable Garden Plans you will need with this aquaponics guide. It will show you everything you need to get a low cost simple system built and producing fresh organic fish and vegetables.
